Why is Blairgowrie one of the more demanding sites on the Peninsula?
Blairgowrie sits on the narrowest, most exposed stretch of the Peninsula. There is very little land between Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait, and the weather crosses it freely.
The dominant factor is the southerly. It comes off open ocean, carries a heavy salt load, and is persistent through spring and into summer rather than occasional.
Second is the tea-tree — beautiful, and the reason the suburb looks the way it does, but it creates deep shade in some rooms while leaving others fully exposed as the sun tracks through gaps in the canopy.
